A blower door installed during a home energy audit.
Blower door equipment depressurizes the house to make it easier to locate and measure air leaks. A special fan is mounted in the frame of an exterior door to pull air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The pressure difference between the air inside and outside the house forces the outside air in through all cracks and openings. While the fan is running, a technician will inspect each room for air leaks. A pressure gauge measures the pressure differences inside and outside the home and an airflow manometer measures the airflow.
Based on the results of the blower door test, we can recommend the best solutions for your home's comfort and energy problems - and perform the work.
There are several ways to test for duct tightness, but Per-Foam-Ance Construction and Energy By Dr. Energy Saver Home Services typically uses the pressure-pan method or the Duct Blaster test.
The Duct Blaster test is the most common method for testing duct leakage. The device used is a smaller version of a blower door.
The pressure-pan method uses a metal pan connected by a tube to a manometer, or pressure gauge to temporarily cover a forced-air register to measure the pressure exerted on the pan by a blower door.
Our experienced technicians will select the best duct leakage testing method for your home.
Air leakage can be contributing to your uncomfortable home and high energy bills. Before installing new windows or making other efficiency upgrades that you might not need, we recommend having blower door and duct leak tests performed to determine exactly how your home is using and losing energy.
